The German team of indeland TTC Jülich, where plays the Portuguese Marcos Freitas, won today easily SV Plüderhausen with 3:0 in the match regarding the 1st German League. Yang Zi (no. 61) beat England’s Paul Drinkhall (no. 116) in three straight games (12-10, 11-2, 11-7) while Filip Szymanski (no. 238) won Croatia’s Aleksandar Karakasevic (no. 62) by 3:1 (11-8, 11-4, 2-11, 11-9. Marcos Freitas (no. 89) ended the guest’s team hopes after wining Poland’s Jacub Kosowski (n. 82), curiously his partner in the men’s doubles competition in the Kuwait Open, that ended today in the Kuwait city. The Portuguese won in five games with the margins of 12-10, 7-11, 9-11, 11-2, 11-8. With this victory the TTC Jülich stands in the last position. On 2nd April at 14:00 TTC Jülich will face 1 FC Saarbrücken currently third place in the German’s league table.

On Thursday 25th February the Portuguese Marcos Freitas and the Polish Jacub Kosowski was eliminated from the Men’s Doubles competition in the Kuwait Open. They lost to the powerful Chinese pair formed by two players from the Top of the World Ranking list, respectively the number three and number two of the World, and Qatar Men’s Doubles Gold Ma Lin / Wang Hao in four games. They lost 8-11, 6-11, 6-11, 14-16.

Marcos Freitas the only Portuguese player disputing the Kuwait Open ITTF Pro Tour, World Ranking number 89 sponsored by TIBHAR, who plays for the Germans at TTC Jülich, was eliminated today’s at the men’s singles competition in the Kuwait Open, an event that ends on 27 February. The player lost to the experienced player from China, the Qatar men’s singles silver Zhang Jike, ranked number 12 of the World. The Portuguese started well the match and has followed closely the high level of play imposed by the powerful opponent and drew by 1:1, but despite the best efforts and the excellent performance Marcos lost the final two sets in the differences, these sets would be crucial to ensure confidence and advantage over the opponent. The athlete lost in a in a gruelling five games encounter with the margins of: 11-5, 7-11, 11-9, 13-11, 11-4. With this result the Portuguese leaves the men’s singles competition.

In the qualification stage of the Men’s Doubles in the Kuwai Open, the Portuguese Marcos Freitas (no. 89) and the Polish Jacub Kosowski (no. 82) were unbeaten and won all their matches by 3:2 and reached the Main Draw. They first beat the pair from Iran Mehran Ahadi (no. 311) / Mohammadreza Akhlaghpasand (no. 277) by 6-11, 7-11, 15-13, 11-7, 6-11, and then overcame Russia’s pair Igor Rubtsov (no. 66) / Alexei Smirnov (no. 45) by 11-13, 9-11, 13-11, 13-11, 6-11. Tomorrow Thursday February 25 at 19h45 (GMT +3), the pair formed by Freitas / Kosowski, will have a very difficult game since they will confront two Top players at the World Ranking, respectively number 3 and number 2 of the World, China’s Ma Lin / Wang Hao, curiously last week Ma Lin and Wang Hao clinch Qatar Men’s Doubles Gold and moved away the Portuguese and the Croatian from the men’s doubles competition.

Portugal’s table tennis player 21 year old Marcos Freitas world ranking number 89 sponsored by TIBHAR had excelled on the opening day of play in the Men’s Singles qualification stage at the Kuwait Open, by beating Singapure’s Pang Xue Jie in five games (11-3, 9-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-4). On the second day of competition, Wednesday 24th February 2010, Marcos Freitas accounted for Egypt’s Omar Assar in four straight games. He won 11-8, 11-6, 11-8, 11-4. In so doing booked his place in the Main Draw, where he is going to defeat tomorrow Thursday  at 14h45 PM (GMT+3) the Qatar men’s singles silver, the experienced China’s player Zhang Jike World’s Ranking number 12.
